Ciorcal Cainte (Talking Circle)

‘Ciorcal Cainte’ is a space to encourage the use of the Irish language. In Ireland we use the term ‘cúpla focal’ to describe when someone uses any bits and pieces
of Irish they know whenever they can. It’s a term used to encourage people to keep the language alive, whether they are fluent or not. ‘Ciorcal Cainte’ is just that; a space for people with any level of Irish to sit and chat with each other. As a minority language,
we have to work hard to keep it alive.

I was accepted in 2023 to have my installation at All Together Now festival in Waterford. After submitting an application in June, I was contacted mid July and
had about 2 weeks to put together the installation.
